Another year older, another year wiser ... We had a great run of gigs in 2023! Here's what we remember doing!
This summer we have had the pleasure of performing with several incredible guest musicians, including longtime "auxiliary Willies" Mike Gowans, Evan Gavry and Jenny Harder and new friends Dusty Elmer and David Wong. You never know who's going to sit in with The Insolent Willies on any given night!
Well, here we are in 2023 already! Last year was a big one for us in terms of the number of shows we played and the miles we traveled to perform for new audiences. Audio from some of our best 2022 live shows is archived online now and available for free streaming or download here: https://archive.org/details/TheInsolentWillies
And, of course, there's plenty of video evidence of our misadventures on YouTube:
We regret to note the passing of our friend and drummer Chad Christman, who died after a brief illness in May 2022. We had a lot of good times playing with Chad over the last year and a half. He was the longtime drummer for the band Permagrin and had also played with Our Secret Love Society before joining The Insolent Willies in 2021. Musicians who have worked with him over the years are currently planning a memorial concert event for sometime later this summer. Our deepest condolences to his many friends and family.
Spring 2022 has arrived, and we are laying down tracks for a new EP expected to be released by summertime. Evan "Tin WIlly" Gavry is engineering the project at his studio in Amsterdam. Stay tuned for more details ...
What a ride 2021 was! Our lineup for most of the year included Bill on guitars, harmonica and fiddle, Frank on bass, banjo and mandolin, Paul on accordion and fiddle, Evan on guitars and keys (and, once, the pennywhistle), and Chad on drums. And in November, we played out first gig -- at our hometown brewery, Stump City Brewing -- with Jenny Harder on trumpet.

We also have a few copies left on CD for you old-timers who use old-fashioned devices. :) In other news, an EP of our live tracks will soon be released by British indy label Aldora Britain Records, which included our song "Poor Devil" on a compilation album last year. Look for it on BandCamp around late March! We plan to release some new tunes on our own label, Skunk Jacket Records, later in the spring, and we are also happy to be included in the upcoming Johnstown Arts & Music Sampler CD that Bill is producing as a fundraiser for the Johnstown Midsummer Concert Series. Stay tuned for new music from us! |
What's up?The Insolent Willies are craft-beer aficionados as well as musicians. In fact, some of their favorite live music venues happen to be purveyors of local brews. Keep up with their musical and zymological adventures right here! Archives
